Charlotte short-term rental basics
Charlotte does not currently require a citywide short-term rental permit. Rentals are governed mainly by zoning in the Unified Development Ordinance, and enforcement is largely complaint-driven. Operators should register with Mecklenburg County for occupancy tax and with the NC Department of Revenue for sales tax. HOA rules can be stricter than city rules, so always check them before you buy.
